The Grand is one of the top theatres in the country. The luxurious decor is worth a visit on its own. The only down side is that if you pick a box only the front two people get a first class view.

i have just returned from seeing the first night of the musical annie- We took 55 eager young things for their first experience of a musical, the children come from an area of high unemployment and had to pay well over 15 pounds for the ticket and bus - and that was subsidised by school, to say i was unhappy is an understatement. the orchestra was far too loud the drummer was in competiotion with the rest of the group, the adult voices were not audible and the only stars of the show were the children who gave 110%.several years ago i saw the production with Paul O Grady as miss Hannigan. the sets were lavish the acting (as it should be) loud and overstated. this seemed a cheap and amateur production in comparison. The adults who attended were aware of the delays in act changes and the sound managers faults in drowning out what was probably good singing and acting. The children from our school on the other hand were well behaved and in awe of the whole experience, i hope in the near future we get the opportunity to show them what real proffessional live theatre is about. That is if the parents can afford it.
